Without Fear, There Can Be No Courage
There can be no courage without fear. Without something to conquer, without something to overcome. We all face fear at some time or another in our lives, the question is; Are you going to run from the ear or are you going to find the courage to overcome and conquer the fear?
It starts when we are children and we have a fear to ask the pretty girl on a date for the fear of rejection. We don’t run for the school office for the fear of peer pressure. We don’t try out for the baseball team, football team, band or drama club for the fear of failure and ridicule. We carry this into our post-scholastic careers and into the workforce when we graduate. We fear asking for that raise, the promotion, and the corner office. We drag our feet with growth and the opportunities to further our careers with training, speaking and communicating. The fear of looking stupid in front of our colleagues strangles the life right out of us. Fear stifles us as we venture back into the files of our minds and remember the rejection, the peer-pressure, the failure and the ridicule.
So how does one sum up the courage to conquer fear?
How can we overcome challenges and move forward with our lives and eliminate fear?
The key is to just take action!
Action cures all stagnation and gets the endorphins moving forward. Conquering fear just takes practice. We can start with something small and practice conquering that little thing that has been taking up some of our mental space. The fear of dieting stifles many people to live a life of desperate measure. There are so many diets on the market today, that many people think they have to starve themselves to lose weight or see any progress.
Instead of looking at such a huge fear, why not look at it in small chunks. Pick two items to give up like soda and pizza for 30 days, then 60 days then 90 days. Replace it with more water and some healthy nuts. 90 days to create a habit and you have started the process of conquering your weight issue. Pretty simple to start and you are guaranteed in seeing results.
If you are deathly afraid of speaking in front of others you career may get stuck in a non-managerial position creating frustration and the lack of growth in a company. Instead of sinking into despair, try joining a local Toastmasters club where learning to speak in front of others if fun, energizing and a very safe place to learn. The matter of a few months, you could be giving the keynote to your corporate executives with more opportunities to grow in the company than you ever thought. Speaking in front of others has never killed anybody, yet it is the number fear of 99% of the people on the planet. It’s really not the fear of speaking, its the fear of looking like an idiot in front of your peers.
Remember; Without fear, there can be no courage! Take baby steps and set small goals to start conquering your fears and before you know it, you will be the David conquering all of your Goliaths in your life!
