Facing Change

Spring is in the air.

We love to see things grow this time of year. The hills are greener, the trees seem to be magnified by their new growth, and there are so many flowers blooming that it looks like a kaleidoscope of color. There is nothing like riding this time of year in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. A quick trip on 49 North to Downieville or South towards Jamestown brings a magnificent visualization of color. We find ourselves at peace doing what we love to do on a Saturday afternoon with friends. We love riding our motorcycles and it brings the joy of seeing God’s beauty that He created for people like us who love the wind in our faces, the open road, and the contentment a good ride brings.

Just as new flowers are blooming, trees are getting new leaves, and hills are shedding new green carpets of grass, we as humans are also expected to grow with ever-changing seasons. Remember, nothing ever remains the same. We are either growing or we are falling behind, and we will soon wither away into inexistence. If we do not face the fears of change and growth, we will never see the potential that is in each and every one of us. The great things the Lord has put in your soul is simply waiting for you to nurture it and stir it up. Almost everything we attribute the falling or failing of people, our marriages, our children, our careers, or our health can be traced back to us not taking appropriate action at the first signs of the failure or the falling.

Everything we must do to win is in retrospect of intentionality. Without intentional intentions, our marriages will fail, our kids will still become lost and statistics, our positive attitudes will be squandered, and our health will continue to decline. We will someday sit and ask ourselves what had happened when we would just have to take the journey back in time to pinpoint the moment we stopped growing in that particular segment of our life. Listen, it is not rocket science! If you do not move forward in your marriage, it will eventually deteriorate from within. If you do not invest the time with your kids and instruct them in the ways of success, the odds of failure for them escalate at an alarming rate. If you do nothing to make healthy food and exercise choices, you will eventually find yourself at the beckon call of oxygen bottles and medication as you age.

I love to see things grow, so I guess that is why I love being the Pastor at Thunder Road Biker Church so much. I know no matter how far down you have gone, that with one simple decision, your life can become amazingly better; your marriage could be taken to new heights, your kids could find their way home, and your health journey with just some baby steps can make a significant come back. It is the basics that keep us grounded and set us up for success. As Vince Lombardi would hold a football up at the first practice every year and say “This is a football”, we need to have a guide for the basics. It is simple; life is very short and we were not meant to be miserable. We were not born to be anguished, suppressed, depressed, or obsessed. The key is praying for wisdom in the little things. If we seek the answers we will find them. There are millions that have gone before you and made the small but significant changes you are looking for no matter what ailment or challenge you are going through. I believe in you and there is “one” more significant than me that believes in you as well.  Hey: If Johnny can, so can you! See you at Thunder Road sometime soon.

Psalm 90:12 Teach us to realize the brevity of life so that we will grow in wisdom.
